27 African States ask for the universal prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation

Closing a conference around excision in Dakar, the representants of 27 African countries have urged the ONU to establish a “universal prohibition” of FGM in 2010. According to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), 3 million young girls are mutilated each year in Africa. Senegal, the organizing State, is one of the 19 African countries which adopted a prohibition law against this practice.

A successful Avant-première to support the fight against FGM in Mali!

fleur du désert > Avant première FHP et Bac FlimEconomic leaders, representatives from the fashion and entertainment worlds and the charity sector, almost 400 prestigious guests have been brought together in the presence of Waris Dirie, Liya Kebede, who plays the role of Waris in the film, François-Henri Pinault, Chairman and CEO of PPR, and Roch Lener, Chairman of Bac Films.

All the collected funds, i.e. €55,000 , will enable the NGO Équilibres & Populations, to keep on implementing its pilot project to encourage the ending of Female Genital Mutilation in Mali.

An exceptional Charity preview screening on March, 7! Objective: to raise funds against the excision

fleur du désert > Carton avant premièreThe PPR Foundation has decided to support the fight against the excision led by Waris Dirie, member of its Board of directors. Desert Flower will be officially released in France on March,10 on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The PPR Foundation wishes to seize this opportunity to help raise public awareness on the topic: with PPR’s support it organises a fund-raising Charity Preview Screening on March, 7 with proceeds to be entirely donated to the French NGO Équilibres & Populations. The funds collected will help the association pursue its “Pilot Project for the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the Health District of Kayes, Mali”, involving among other the immigrant communities from this region residing in France.
