Professional integration and Women's Rights

La Maison Rose provides shelter to women from the streets of Dakar (Senegal), victims of severe violence (rape, incest, forced prostitution), together with their children; along with guidance for social reintegration..

The Maison Rose (or "Pink House") thus opened its doors in November 2008. It provides shelter to all women and housing for some of the women and their children.
It provides support to help them start small businesses as income generating activities: vegetable cropping, sewing, embroidery, etc.
In partnership with other NGOs, the Maison Rose also organises literacy classes or theatre workshops to help the sheltered women consider their professional future.
Lastly, the association organises awareness meetings focussed on issues linked to women's vulnerability, in an effort to promote equal opportunities, tolerance and dialogue in the neighbourhood.
