A world free from female genital cutting: Aissata’s true story

Today, more than 200 million women and girls are victims of female genital mutilation (FGM) worldwide and 3.6 million girls are at risk of being cut within the next year [1]. This video, a joint project between Orchid Project, Tostan, and PositiveNegatives, tells the true story of Aissata, an activist and change-maker from Northern Senegal who was cut when she was just seven years old. Like a growing number of communities around the world, Aissata’s village made the historic decision to abandon FGM.

The Orchid Project is a UK organization that has a vision of a world free from female genital mutilation. Want to get involved? Click here to share, act and discuss.
