Supporting children victims of abuse through Children's Advocacy Centers
More than 600,000 children are abused in the U.S each year. Among them, 77% of children are victimized by a parent. The youngest children are most vulnerable. Children in the 1st year of their life are 15% of all victims, and more than a quarter of child maltreatment victims are no more than 2 years old.
The National Children’s Alliance (NCA) is a not-for-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote and support communities in providing a coordinated investigation and comprehensive response to child victims of abuse through 961 Children's Advocacy Centers (CACs). A CAC is a child-friendly facility where law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical and victim advocacy professionals work together to investigate abuse, hold offenders accountable, and most importantly, help children heal from abuse.
Since 1988, NCA has been making a big difference by providing support, advocacy, quality assurance, and national leadership for CACs, all to help support the important work that CACs do in communities across the country. NCA is a national leader in child abuse intervention, prevention, training, technical assistance, research and support.
